Maori Hei Tiki Ornament

Inspired By Fae - Hand made

This is a lovely unique and a one of a kind hand sculptured and painted Maori style Hei Tiki.

Green colours symbolises nature, fertility, hope and bountifulness.

About this piece:

I am married to a kiwi so it is no surprise that I love the Kiwi's and he loves all things with a Maori heritage. Recently we as a family joined a local cultural group and are learning lots about the Maori community and custom's through dance, song, food and just mixing with like minded people it's great.

Recently I have been asked to make some Hei Tiki's for gifts for some fellow kiwi's. There has been such an interest for these that I was asked to make some more. So here is my newest one ready for it's new home.

I make each and every thing by hand and spend many hours sculpting and creating something unique and special with meaning. This piece is something you can have as an ornament in and around your home. It is covered with black felt on the back for added protection on your furniture. This is a very tactile piece and could be used to meditate with. It has real paua shell too. Which brings out all of those lovely colour's I love.

Green Jade is a crystal of love. It is supportive of new love, and increases trustworthiness and fidelity. It also inspires love later in life.

Abalone strengthens the structure of the body and the functions of the heart chakra. Both pearl and abalone shell hold the same divinatory meaning:

Intimately connected to the sea - represents the tides of emotion
An easy flow of feelings and sensitivities to others
Connected to family and particularly motherhood
Harmony in relationships
The play and variety of colors represent change as the beauty of existence
The Spiral:

In terms of spirituality, the spiral symbol can represent the path leading from outer consciousness (materialism, external awareness, ego, outward perception) to the inner soul (enlightenment, unseen essence, nirvana or cosmic awareness. Movements between the inner (intuitive, intangible) world and the outer (matter, manifested) world are mapped by the spiraling of archetypal rings; marking the evolution of humankind on both an individual and collective scale.

Moreover, in terms of rebirth or growth, the spiral symbol can represent the consciousness of nature beginning from the core or center and thus expanding outwardly. This is the way of all things, as recognized by most mystics. The symbolic meaning of labyrinth is also associated with the various spiral symbols in that we can trace our footsteps (both metaphorical and literal) back to and from the Source to the centre or core self or concept Further, the spiraling inward motion is a physical replication of our spiritual tendency to seek within the highest truths in order to find eternal freedom.  When we are moving outward from the source, it is an action that we have made the divine connection and now we are expressing our completeness outwardly – essentially sharing our highest good with all around us.

The Tiki is commonly known as a good luck charm (Hei meaning to wear around the neck). these Maori designs are considered a symbol of fertility. The wearer of the Hei Tiki is assumed to be clear thinking, perceptive, loyal and knowledgeable. Their strength is their character. The Tiki is a talisman of New Zealand and her Maori people. From ancient times it has been regarded as a good luck charm. It is widely believed that it represents the unborn human embryo. And in Maori culture this represents a particularly powerful spirit for warding off bad luck. Years ago the most valuable tiki's were hand carved from greenstone. They were handed down through the generations and are treasured New Zealand Souvenirs today. You can still get such tiki's and start your own cycle of good luck.
